As women, we sometimes
become bogged down with the everyday hustle and bustle of life. It’s so easy
for us to get consumed with family, work, and other obligations that slowly rob
us of our time and sanity. If we’re lucky, we might get a moment here and there
to ourselves where we can bask in the enjoyment of doing absolutely NOTHING!
But then it’s back to reality and we start the cycle all over again, sacrificing
our mental and emotional health. Yes, by nature we’re nurturers, but that
doesn’t mean that we have to sacrifice ourselves for others.
Doing something for ourselves might translate into stealing away to the garage, closet, or in my case, the bathroom to have our own time without feeling guilty or ashamed for it. Whether it be for drinking a glass of wine, listening to music, or reflecting quietly, we owe it to ourselves to make time for the most important person in our lives—US.
I’ll give you a moment to ponder the question:
What have you done for YOU lately?
Even if you’re presently within the confines of any room alone taking in the words on this page, it’s a start. Now I want you to think BIGGER. I would like for you to spend a moment thinking about dreams and goals.
What are YOURS? Have you always wanted to learn a new language, start your own business, or write a book? If so, why haven’t you done it yet?
Is it because you lack knowledge? YouTube has a video explaining anything—And I do mean ANYTHING you could ever want to learn. There’s also the internet, library and a million other resources that are free to use.
Is it because you think you don’t have the time? You’re wrong. Dedicated people make time. Lazy people make excuses. Which one are you?
For me, my dreams have always seemed unattainable due to lack of time. By the time I was done with what I had to do, there was just no time to do what I wanted to do—so I told myself. Until I began to ask myself, “if not now, when?” The truth is if I didn’t make the time, I was never going to just find it. So that’s what I did.
I personally like mornings (not too early though). I carve
out an hour or two on weekends while the house is quiet and work toward a goal.
During the week when it’s a bit more hectic, it’s more like 20 minutes of
reflection or prayer or just lying down with my essential oils and my thoughts.
Can I tell you that it’s the best feeling in the world? I’m not on edge nearly
as much. You’d be surprised at what a little bit of peace and quiet can do. I’m
even down from daily threatening to slap my kids to only once or twice a week.
And I don’t have to tell you what happens when you begin to see a life-long
dream unfold before your eyes knowing that all the hard work and dedication
that YOU committed to it is finally paying off. PRICELESS!
Now, YOU can continue running in circles on your tiny hamster
wheel watching your life disintegrate into a pile of “what if’s” and “should’ve’s”
or you can kick those patent leather pumps into the corner, put on your Nikes,
and get busy chasing your dreams.
Thank you for this June 1st post. Today I’m putting my Nikes on and chasing my dream.
